Hi, For those interested: Using MapSource under Linux is very well possible. Including the fully operational data transfer via the USB port! Free type online.

Garmin MapSource is only available for Windows-based PC, not Mac. Garmin stopped supporting MapSource with their last update v.16.3 on October 25, 2010, at which time MapSource was replaced with BaseCamp software.
MapSource is no longer included with DVD/CD versions of our maps. Instead, use BaseCamp to view maps and create routes and waypoints for your next hiking, biking, motorcycling, driving or off-roading trip. And for your next boating trip, pair HomePort with your existing BlueChart data and view map details such as underwater hazards and hidden obstacles so you can plan a route to avoid them. Compability and license Garmin MapSource is licensed as shareware for the Windows operating system from mapping and can be used as a free trial until the trial period ends (after an unspecified number of days). The Garmin MapSource 6.16.3 demo is available to all software users as a free download with potential restrictions and is not necessarily the download of the full version. Compatibility with this software may vary, but will generally run fine under Microsoft Windows 10, 8, 8.1, 7, Vista and XP on either a 32-bit or 64-bit setup.

Mapsource rendering of OSM data MapSource is software from for viewing maps, waypoints, routes and tracks, and transferring them to or from a Garmin GPS device. It is included with some Garmin GPS devices, and with some Garmin map products. MapSource runs on Windows. It may also run on Linux using Wine, see.
