Borrowing settings derived on another tv is not advisable because each tv's component tolerances are different from one other. What that means is that the responses for a given setting will vary from tv to tv.

So what looks good on one tv may look like crap on another. Using someone else's settings may be a way to get started to see how the different settings work together, but if you really want to optimize your tv in your viewing environment you'd be best to do it yourself. That can be achieved by one, either using a calibration disk to adjust the basic settings. It won't be a calibration but it may be all you need.
